BHC Alhambra Hospital offers a complete spectrum of acute psychiatric services including:

Inpatient Care:

Acute inpatient hospitalization is the most intensive and structured level of care offered, and only occurs with a physician’s order. Patients are housed in a safe, nurturing and therapeutic environment, while receiving customized treatment and care that is designed to stabilize unsafe behaviors and aggressively manage symptoms in a quick and efficient manner. A highly qualified team of physician-led mental health professionals provide 24-hour observation and care, intervention and oversight, coordinated treatment and therapy, and discharge planning services.

Advantages of Acute Inpatient at BHC Alhambra Hospital:
  • Safe, controlled, structured environment
  • 24-hour nursing care
  • Intensive physician involvement.
  • Multi-disciplinary mental health treatment team.
  • Utilization of both medication and psychotherapy, as appropriate.
  • Medically-supervised detoxification (for alcohol & drugs)

  • Partial Hospitalization Program

Partial Hospitalization (PHP) is provided in an outpatient setting and is designed to increase and maintain therapeutic gains made in inpatient. Patients with a primary psychiatric diagnosis who require intensive support and structure, but not 24-hour supervision may be enrolled directly into our PHP program or may be “stepped down” from the inpatient level of care. A physician-led team of mental health professionals provide customized therapy with the goal of achieving continued stabilization of an acute or chronic condition or behavior. Dual diagnosis programs are also available for adults with a secondary chemical dependency diagnosis. Programming includes psycho-educational, process, and medication management groups. Nursing intervention is also provided as well as routine treatment supervision by a psychiatrist.

Advantages of PHP:
  • Patient continues to live at home while attending a day program.
  • Weekly psychiatric oversight and supervision
  • Nursing interventions
  • Multi-disciplinary treatment team
  • Stabilization and management of a condition
  • Hospital stays may be shortened by “step down” to PHP
  • Structured alternative to hospitalization

IOP is more intensive than traditional one-on-one outpatient therapy and is designed to provide structured psychiatric treatment and support to those who have previously struggled with sustaining therapeutic gains. Similar to Partial Hospitalization, patients participate in psycho-educational, process, and medication management groups for 1 to 3 days per week. The treatment team is made up of supportive doctors, therapists, nurses, and program specialists who care about your mental well-being.

In addition, BHC Alhambra Hospital offers an intensive adult chemical dependency outpatient program for patients who need rehabilitation from alcohol or other substance abuse.

Advantages of IOP:
  • Sessions may be conducted while the individual continues to go to work or school.
  • Patient continues to live at home while attending a day program.
  • Weekly psychiatric oversight and supervision.
  • Nursing interventions.
